Anthony L. Watkins I, is the ninth child of the late Alfred and Hattie G. Watkins. He is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. At an early age, he had a desire to serve humanity. He is the owner and president of Watkins Funeral Home, Jonesboro and Watkins Insurance Agency. Watkins Funeral Home, Jonesboro is located in historic Jonesboro, Clayton County, serving Clayton and surrounding counties. The motto of the business is “Service with Compassion”. Mr. Watkins started in the funeral industry at the age of 12 working with his family funeral home business in Atlanta, Georgia. With over 25 years of funeral service experience, professionalism and expertise, Mr. Watkins was lead to establish his own funeral home firm.

Mr. Watkins established Watkins Funeral Home, Jonesboro, in November 2008, having compassion and a desire to bring quality and affordable funeral service to the community. The first African-American funeral home in Jonesboro, begin serving the community in July 2009. Since July 2009, Watkins Funeral Home, Jonesboro, has served with compassion over 200 families during their time of loss. Mr. Watkins believes that the staff of Watkins Funeral Home does not work for him, but work with him, therefore, giving the staff the opportunity to serve families in a way to empower them to make decisions that meet the desires and needs of the families.

Mr. Watkins studied at Massey Business College. He is a graduate of American College and is a Fellow of the Life Underwriting Training Council. Mr. Watkins has been a licensed insurance agent since 1995. He is a lifetime member of NAACP. Mr. Watkins is an alumnus of the first graduating class of the Clayton County Grassroots Leadership program. He is a member of National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He is also a member of the Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association, Association of Christian Ministers of Clayton County (ACMCC), and Clayton County Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Watkins has received numerous awards and recognitions. To name a few, The President’s Circle, Superstar Agent, Distinguished Career Underwriting Designation, and Leadership Council, Partner of Education Award. Watkins Funeral Home was recipient of Keep Clayton Clean and Beautiful Award.
Watkins Funeral Home is a family owned and operated business, serving the community in many ways, not only at the time of the loss of a loved one. Active participation includes Partner in Education at various schools in the county, American Cancer Society, sponsorships to the local County Parks and Recreation Association, county projects, and many other organizations within the county.

Mr. Watkins is a member of New Macedonia Baptist Church, Riverdale, Georgia. He is married and the father of four children. Mr. Watkins’ personal motto is what his mother instilled in him at a very young age, “If a task has once begun. Never leave it till it’s done. Be the labor great or small. Do it well or not at all” (author unknown). In honor of his mother’s memory, Mr. Watkins dedicated the chapel’s name as The Hattie G. Watkins Memorial Chapel. With God’s mercy and provision, Mr. Watkins continues to accomplish the goals and visions that God gives him.
