George G. Andrews

With advocacy for the African American Community as his cornerstone, George G.
Andrews gave life to his dream of meeting the needs of underserved communities and
focused on providing opportunities for small businesses to access capital needed for
business growth and development. A man of tremendous vision and insight, he has
built a solid professional career in Atlanta and the State of Georgia. As a People’s
Banker, George is continuously working to fulfill his commitment to making sure our
community continues to have the rich legacy of economic empowerment and
financial access. He is now spearheading the implementation and development of
Texas base, Unity National Bank, an African-American Owned & Operated Bank, to
the Atlanta Market. Unity National Bank has been serving the financial needs of the
minority communities in Houston since 1963. The bank offers financial assistance
and banking expertise to the many customers it serves.
George G. Andrews was educated at Booker T. Washington High School and
Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he received both a meaningful education
in academics and the sensitivity to serve his community. After graduation from
Morehouse, he entered the world of business through the Trust Company Bank’s
management training program, where most of his tenure was in branch management
and commercial lending. It was during this period that he became aware of the fact
that all minority business owners sometimes needed special attention to launch their
businesses and the status-quo banking establishment was not the place for this kind of
service. He left Trust Company Bank in early 1983 to join the National Bank of
Georgia as an area branch manager. In 1984 he graduated from the School of
Banking at Louisiana State University of Baton Rouge. Two years later he rejoined
Trust Company Bank and remained there until his dream of a financial institution
dedicated to support the urban and minority community became his daily aspiration. In
1994, Capitol City Bank & Trust Company began operation in Atlanta, Georgia.
As a clear testament of how George Andrews has lived and built the foundation for his
business model, he feels that in order for businesses to thrive and succeed, their
prosperity must be spread throughout the community. He has sown seeds of
commitment, trustworthiness, perseverance, collaboration and community awareness
through; student banking programs, scholarship funds, HBCU partnerships, business
collaborations and assist growth of local churches and businesses.
Additionally, Mr. Andrews is strongly committed to community involvement, serving on
several Boards of Directors.
George G. Andrews stepped out on faith to pursue his dream. His contributions to the
community are immeasurable, creating a legacy that continues to inspire and ease the
way for wealth, prosperity, community empowerment, success and economic
development for generations to come. Mr. Andrews lives by a quote of Sir Isaac Newton,
“If I could see far, it is because I stand on the shoulders of others.”
Mr. Andrews is married for 47 years to Janice Smith Andrews, has 2 daughters, 1 son
and 8 grandchildren.
