Gregory Levett

Gregory B. Levett Sr. is the founder, owner and chief executive officer of Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. Born and raised in Conyers, Georgia, he was introduced to the funeral service industry at a very early age by his father and has been serving families throughout the metro Atlanta area for over 30 years. His commitment and compassion for the families he serves has earned him a reputation for providing excellent customer service, professionalism and dignified funeral service to people of all nationalities and languages. He is a visionary and philanthropist, always seeking ways to improve and expand his business. Gregory and his wife, Betty, opened their first chapel in 1980 in Scottdale, Georgia. They have since expanded their family business to include three additional chapels in Lawrenceville, GA., Buford, GA. and Decatur, GA. Before the establishment of his first funeral home, Mr. Levett used his entrepreneurial talents to acquire a Radio Shack franchise and was also the manager of a local grocery store.

He became a licensed Funeral Director in 1973 and continues to master the art funeral service by regularly attending classes and conferences. He continuously shares his wealth of knowledge with other aspiring funeral directors and business owners by speaking at various engagements. Gregory and Betty Levett have three children; Gregory Jr., T. Lanier and Deana, who are all active in the day-to-day operations of the family business. Not only does Mr. Levett devote his time and talents to his family and the families who entrust their loved ones to his care, but he openly expresses his love for others as a very active leader in the community. He is a member and former president of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, former president of the Dekalb Chapter of the 100 Black Men of America, former member of the City of Decatur Public School Board Council, lifetime member of the NAACP and former president of the Salem Gate Merchants Association. He also serves as a member on the Board of Directors for the DeKalb Medical Center, and chairman of the Dekalb Hospital Authority which oversees 250 million dollars worth of hospital bonds annually. He and his wife Betty also made the largest donation to the Dekalb Medical Center (Hillandale) by a minority since 1961 and because of their generosity, the hospital created the Gregory B. Levett Sr. and Betty H. Levett Emergency Department Reception in their honor.

Mr. Levett and his family have donated over $1 million to various charities and organizations throughout their 30 years of service. Mr. Levett humbly states that he desires to leave a legacy of service to the communities of families that have supported him since his opening day and that, “I work hard simply to help provide opportunity and assistance to the community.”
