Huei -Yuan (Steven) Tai

Huei-Yuan (Steven) Tai is the Director General (DG) of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Atlanta. He came to Atlanta as the Director General in March of this year.Prior to assuming this role, he was Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation and Economic Affairs in Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a post that honed his skills in international political and economic relations. Tai’s global perspective gives him an excellent background and context for trade, friendship and cultural exchanges between Taiwan and the six southeastern states TECO serves.

As Deputy Secretary General of the Coordination Council for North American Affairs,and Division Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle, Tai forged valuable connections and gained insights into American government, culture, customs,and priorities. This knowledge also serves him well in his current position.

In addition to holding several other posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, DG Tai also served in Budapest. His time in Europe gave him a n understanding of the European perspective, the continent’s issues, and their impact on Asia and the U.S. DG Tai received his B.A., in English Literature from Taipei’s Soochow University. He holds a Certificate f rom the English Language Unit of Leeds University in England. He also holds a Certificate as a Visiting Scholar at the Asia/Pacific Research Center of Stanford University.

DG Tai is married to Mrs. Nancy Tai, and they have one daughter. His hobbies include reading, music, travel, golf and Chinese calligraphy.
