Lee Rhyant

Lee E. Rhyant is the Executive Vice President and General Manager for the Marietta, Ga., facility of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company. In this position, he is involved with Lockheed Martin strategic development, corporate special assignments and metro Atlanta community and government relations. As General Manager for the Marietta site, he is responsible for the 7,000-employee operation, delivering the world’s finest military aircraft such as the C-130J Hercules, F-22 stealth fighter, P-3 reconnaissance and C-5M modification programs. Mr.Rhyant joined Lockheed Martin in July 2000 as Vice President and General Manager of the Marietta site with more than 37 years of experience in aerospace and automotive industries. Prior to joining Lockheed Martin, he served as Vice President Production Operations, Rolls-Royce Aerospace. Mr. Rhyant joined Allison Gas Turbine in 1972, and held a variety of senior management positions within General Motors automotive and aerospace divisions.

He holds an MBA degree from Indiana University and a bachelor’s degree from Bethune-Cookman University. In May 2009, he received an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from Bethune-Cookman University. He has also completed a number of executive development courses at Harvard University, London School of Business, M.I.T. and General Motors Institute.

Mr. Rhyant has been recognized nationally for his leadership. He was named the 2009 Executive of the Year by the National Management Association, and the 2008 Citizen of the Year by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce/Marietta Daily Journal for his outstanding community service and dedication to the community. Rhyant was named the 2008 Man of the Year by the Atlanta Tribune for his leadership role in corporate America and his outstanding community service. He was named a 2007 Man of Influence by the Atlanta Business League. He received the prestigious Justice Robert Benham Award for promoting leadership and equality for all citizens, Citizen of the Year by SafeAmerica Foundation, CEO Diversity Award from the Georgia Minority Business Association, Corporate Leadership Award from the prestigious 100 Black Men of America, Outstanding HBCU Graduate Leadership Award, Community Service Recognition Award from Georgia Trend, Community Service Excellence by the Cobb Civitan Club, and named in Who’s Who of Black Atlanta 2003-2009.

He serves on numerous boards including Bethune-Cookman University, Chattahoochee Technical College, Atlanta Urban League, Atlanta Area Boy Scouts Council, SafeAmerica Foundation, Cobb County Chamber of Commerce, The Georgian Club and United Way of Cobb County. Mr. Rhyant chairs major philanthropic events annually to include the 2009 United Way campaign of Cobb County, 2009 Atlanta Area Boy Scouts Peach of an Athlete Role Model, American Cancer Society Swordsmen’s Ball, YWCA Tribute to Women in Leadership, and Blacks United for Youth, Inc. He has also chaired the National Minority Supplier Development Council Expo, Oscar Night America benefiting Cobb Family Resources, and the SafeAmerica Foundation focusing on teen driving safety. He is a nationally recognized
speaker presenting at business conferences, youth leadership forums and K-16 schools and universities.

Rhyant has been featured on CBS highlighting Black History Month, in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as a premier Atlanta leader, the Atlanta Tribune, Atlanta Business Journal, Points North Magazine and James Magazine highlighting leaders in Georgia.

Lee and his wife Evelyn live in Marietta, Ga. They have two grown sons, both medical doctors practicing in Indiana and Georgia.
