Leslie B. Wiggins assumed duties as the Director of the Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC) on May 20, 2013, and oversees the delivery of health care to more than 100,000 Veterans through 15 sites of care in northern Georgia. With a workforce of over 4,000 employees and an operating budget of more than $600 million, she has a proven track record as an exceptional health care leader with outstanding qualifications, skills, and demonstrated management ability to lead complex organizations, motivate employees, manage resources and work successfully with widely varied stakeholder groups.

Prior to joining the Atlanta VAMC, she served as the Department of Veterans Affairs, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Labor-Management Relations in Washington, D.C. As the former DAS for Labor Management Relations, she was the principal advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Human Resources and Administration at the VA Central Office on matters pertaining to the development and management of labor relations within the VA, and was responsible for the establishment of a corporate approach to managing the Department’s relationship with its five national labor unions.

She began her career with the VA in 1993 and has served in multiple capacities caring for Veterans. As the first African-American CEO of the Atlanta VA Medical Center, and one of five African-American females serving in a senior executive position out of more than 300,000 employees within the Veterans Health Administration, she is a true believer that all things are possible. She began her career as a certified nursing assistant and progressed to head nurse, chief of quality management, Associate Director of the Detroit VA Medical Center, DAS for Labor Management Relations and her most recent role as Medical Center Director of the Atlanta VAMC.

As the Medical Center Director and leader of one of the top five fastest growing health care facilities in the nation, her dedication and desire to ensure Veterans receive the best care possible remains top of mind. She is a proven visionary senior executive with extensive experience in strong and decisive management of clinical health care operations and administrative areas such as clinical, financial, human capital and facility planning.
